Topographic Surveys are graphic representations of the terrain of a tract of land. There are several applications in which this information can be used. Topographic Surveys depict the locations of both natural and artificial features and how they differ in elevation. They may also include cross sections, profiles, contouring, and drainage. Topographic Surveys are also used for the determination of volumes and quantities. Often a Topographic Survey is used in land planning to determine the useable land on proposed developments.

Topographic surveys are preformed using Global Positioning System (G.P.S.) and Total Stations, tied into geodetic control. Eagle Point’s surface modeling module is used to create a surface tin and contours. It is then verified on the ground to ensure the accuracy of the topographic map.

This is an example of Topographic Survey contours. This site had a natural drainage channel coming down the hill on the east and exiting the property on the west. These features may affect future development of this property. Topographic Surveys can also show proposed changes in the terrain for such documents as grading and drainage plans.
